STEP 1 - Wash

SURFACE PREPARATION
It is extremely important to get the roof clean and dry. First remove heavy deposits of dirt, leaves and other debris from the roof using broom or air broomer, then inspect the entire surface for any open seams, tears, cuts, etc. Repair these flaws so water is not blown in under membrane during the cleaning process. Pressure wash roof with water and allow to dry completely.

Biological Control: Areas of algae, mildew or fungus on the roof membrane or the existing coating
should be treated with a solution of 1 part household bleach and 3 parts water, followed by a power washer rinse using clear water.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
For general cleaning, combine 1 part Gaco Mobile Roof Wash with 9 parts water.
Maximum coverage when mixed at that ratio is 1,000 square feet per quart.

After the roof is completely dry from initial cleaning, apply Wash with a low pressure sprayer, using a 3-4 foot (0.91-1.22 m) arc pattern.
A Hudson-type agricultural sprayer, conventional pressure sprayer or airless sprayer is recommended.

Allow solution to stand for 10-15 minutes, adding a light mist of water to prevent drying.
While it stands, lightly agitate any heavily soiled areas with a broom or brush. Do not allow dirt to settle in low areas.

After application of cleaner, use a commercial power washer >3,000 psi (20.69 MPa) to remove debris and continue rinsing until all suds are gone. Start at the lowest point of the roof and work towards the highest point. It is important to keep the surface wet until Wash and other residue has been completely rinsed off and the surface is clean.

Drying: After cleaning and rinsing the roof, ensure no dirt or debris is present. Allow surfaces to thoroughly dry to prevent blistering. Examine roof, paying particular attention to areas of physical damage to determine that residual water has in fact dried before applying coating. Note: Drying time depends on weather conditions such as temperature, humidity and air movement.

STEP 2 - Repair Tape

SURFACE PREPARATION
Once the roof is completely clean and dry, mask off the sidewalls and caps of the RV with a good quality painter’s tape and clear plastic sheeting to prevent any accidental contact with the coating and these surfaces. When prepping the surface for top coat application, remove any loose material or caulking with a putty knife.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Inspect the entire roof surface for any open seams or tears. Working in small sections, apply a 5-6" wide stripe of  GacoMobileRoof Top Coat by brush as received, over the seam or tear.

Cut the RepairTape to desired length, making all cuts with scissors. Then embed the RepairTape into the coating and immediately brush another layer of coating over the tape, smoothing out any wrinkles with a brush or cloth. Verify all the RepairTape is completely covered with GacoMobileRoof Top Coat.

If more than one piece of tape is going to be used, overlap any adjoining pieces by a minimum
of ½". Allow the surface to dry.

Inspect tape when coating is dry or nearly dry, to ensure it is bonded to the substrate and completely smooth. Press down any fish mouth cavities or wrinkles, cutting and re-bonding if necessary.

Once dry, inspect the RepairTape for fish mouth cavities, wrinkles, bare spots and other defects. Repair as needed prior to the application of top coat. To prevent dirt pickup, RepairTape must not be left exposed. Coat with GacoMobileRoof Top Coat as soon as it is applied.

STEP 3 - Liquid Tape

SURFACE PREPARATION
If Gaco Mobile Roof Liquid Tape is being applied to a weathered surface, it is extremely important to get the roof clean and dry. Apply Gaco Mobile Roof Wash according to label instructions.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Mix before application to ensure uniform color and consistency. Product should not be thinned. Apply by brush or roller as Gaco Mobile Roof Kit Application Instructions Page 2 received.

For cold weather application, keep material stored above 65°F (18°C). Do not apply in temperatures below freezing, above 120°F (49°C) or if rain is expected within 2 hours.

Apply Liquid Tape at a rate of 12 linear feet of seams per quart at 3" wide or approximately 10 sq. ft. per quart. Coat fasteners at least 2" in all directions; apply at a rate of approximately 90 fasteners per quart. Liquid Tape should have a buildup of approximately 1/8" when complete.

Allow Liquid Tape to dry a minimum of 3-12 hours before coating with Gaco Mobile Roof Top Coat. Application rate is job specific. Additional material may be required.

Allow the first coat to dry a minimum of 3-12 hours, or until it can be walked on, before coating with Gaco Mobile Roof Top Coat (product is moisture cure, low humidity will result in longer dry times); coat within 48 hours. Note: Liquid Tape is not suitable as a standalone patch and needs to be coated within 48 hours of application.

CLEAN UP & MAINTENANCE
Application tools and equipment can be cleaned with Gaco Flex Silicone Solvent or 100% Pure Mineral Spirits. DO NOT USE WATER OR RECLAIMED SOLVENTS.

Once a container of Liquid Tape is opened, the curing process has started. Use the entire product on your project if possible. Allow any remaining product in the container to solidify and dispose of in the proper manner.

Roof structures may settle over time. A periodic inspection of your roof, which includes transition areas, roof vents, sanitary pipes or skylights, is recommended. Roofs become slippery when wet. Use extreme caution. Do not recoat Liquid Tape with acrylic, urethane or Hypalon®  coatings.

CAUTION An old, neglected, or failing roof does not have the resilience to withstand the rigors of weather. Liquid Tape may not be suitable for such a roof. If you are in doubt about the condition of your roof, consult a qualified roof inspector.

STEP 4 - Top Coat

SURFACE PREPARATION
If Gaco Mobile Roof Top Coat is being applied to a weathered surface, it is extremely important to get the roof clean and dry. Apply Gaco Mobile Roof Wash according to label instructions.

PRIMING
Top Coat will adhere to most surfaces without a primer; however, some substrates may require a primer for optimal adhesion. To verify proper adhesion, an adhesion test should be performed on a properly prepared and representative area of the substrate that is to be coated.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Mix before application to ensure uniform color and consistency. Product should not be thinned.

Use the solvent-resistant ¾" nap roller cover as received. Dip roller directly into pail and apply, or pour product onto flat roof surface and roll out evenly.

The coverage rate of Gaco Mobile Roof Top Coat is 1.25 gallons per 100 sq. ft.; two coats are required for sufficient coverage on most substrates. Coverage rate may decrease on heavily textured or weathered roofs. Allow the first coat to dry for 3 to 12 hours. Apply second coat as soon as the first coat can be safely walked on. Do not apply in temperatures below freezing, above 120°F (49°C) or if rain is expected within 2 hours. Light foot traffic is allowed for equipment servicing only.

CLEAN UP & MAINTENANCE
Application tools and equipment can be cleaned with Gaco Flex Silicone Solvent or 100% Pure Mineral Spirits. DO NOT USE WATER OR RECLAIMED SOLVENTS.

Once a container of Top Coat is opened, the curing process has started.

Do not recoat Top Coat with acrylic, urethane or Hypalon ® coatings.

CAUTION An old, neglected, or failing roof does not have the resilience to withstand the rigors of weather. Top Coat may not be suitable for such a roof. If you are in doubt about the condition of your roof, consult a qualified roof inspector. Note: Gaco Mobile Roof Top Coat is the final step in creating a monolithic roof coating and is not suitable as a standalone patch.

Class A Customs Available Membranes:
PVC - Smooth Both Sides - Color White on both sides
TPO - Smooth & Frosted Side - Color White on both sides
EPDM - Smooth & Textured Side (texture varies) - Color White on both sides

Membrane Ships Folded Depending on size of kit you will get one or two boxes (glue / membrane)

Membrane Length / Width It is recommended to get a size that is longer / wider than your unit due to possible curve of the roof, raised or lowered areas, removing the excess is much better than not having enough.

Membrane must be installed onto clean wooden surface, do not install on top of existing membrane, glue, etc.
1. Router all vent and accessory openings. Sand all openings, seams, and edges to a smooth finish. Remove all debris off roof with air hose.
2. Apply seam tape (2” minimum width) evenly onto roof and sidewall to cover any sharp edges, it is required that seam tape be used to avoid edge splits. (We do not provide seam tape due to different sized needed)
3. Make sure all screw heads and surfaces are smooth and level throughout, raised screws will snap and puncture membrane and is not covered under warranty.

As soon as possible, while on top of clean unit remove membrane from box, do not drag over edge of unit.
1. Do Not allow membrane to touch ground or dirty surfaces.
2. Do Not allow membrane to touch sharp objects or surfaces, including lifted screw head and edges. 3. Do Not drag the membrane as this can cause punctures and tears which is not covered under warranty.
4. Membrane can be glued either side down. Single-Ply membranes are the same color throughout.

Membrane Installation
1. Cut the membrane to fit roof length with an excess of at least 6” front and rear.
2. “Bed Sheet” the membrane. That is, fold it in half so half of the roof is exposed.
3. Apply adhesive in a wet film thickness of 8-10 mils with a short-napped paint roller to the exposed half of the roof. (1 gal. will cover approximately 160-200 sq ft.) brush can be used but is more difficult. 4. Lay the roof membrane over the wet adhesive, the membrane needs to be adjusted both in width (side to side) and length (front to rear) to ensure the membrane is as flat as possible before the squeegee process. Let surplus material drape over the side of the unit for perimeter finishing.
5. Remove all air pockets and wrinkles with a squeegee (gray neoprene head will not streak), linoleum roller; press firmly working from the center outward toward the edges, do not be on the roof during this time.
6. All wrinkles must be removed at this point for a quality installation. The roof will tighten and conform as the adhesive cures.
7. Repeat steps 2 – 7 for remaining half of roof.
8. Apply putty /butyl tape to the backside of the roof-edge molding. Then while holding the bar, draw surplus material tight with a downward pull, but do not stretch the membrane. Drive screws through molding, membrane, and roof framing members. For best application install molding from center of unit to ends. Alternative method, staple membrane in place using ½” staples 3”-5” apart then apply bar. 9. If roof-edge moldings are not installed on roof during this time membrane will peel-up as drying.
10. Apply putty /butyl tape to the backside of the front and rear termination moldings/caps. Front cap will lay on top of the membrane, membrane should lay on top of the rear cap. Reinstall termination molding using screw type fastener, make sure to screw into sufficient roof structure to prevent lifting. Both edges of the front and rear roof molding must be sealed with caulk/sealant. A minimum 3/8” bead will work for most applications.

Openings & Vents and Appliance Installation
1. Using a utility knife “x” cut all roof openings. Make sure you round all 90-degree corners to eliminate the possibility of running cuts.
2. Surplus material must be secured by staples or screws inside the openings, trim all excess material.
3. Apply putty/butyl tape to all vents and accessories, when installing if any bubbles are noticed in membrane smooth bubble to vent opening and secure vent with screws.
4. Seal around all vents and accessories. Apply sealant to all visible screw heads. There is no need to spread the sealant as you are applying it. A minimum 3/8” bead will work for most applications.

*Butyl tape provides the “Primary Seal” against water infiltration or penetration in these membrane roof assemblies. The lap sealant is a secondary seal. Butyl tape must be compressed 30% to 40% to perform correctly.

FAQ's

Which side do I install down?
Either side can be installed facing down. Some people think for better traction to install with the textured size facing up and the smooth side down toward the roof (facing glue), some people think for easier cleaning to install the smooth side facing up.

My roof turned pink!
This will happen when your roof is exposed to too much carbon dioxide, you leave the unit indoors or covered too long with no access to fresh air, once the unit is outside the pink will slowly disappear.

Why is the roof wrinkled around all the vents and skylights?
The solvents in the 1021 self-leveling sealant temporarily swell the roofing membrane. In the warmer months it takes 3-5 days to go away & 5-9 in the colder months.
