  • Does your local H.D. require a minimum Fresh water tank size?
This varies by your local health department, we do not know this information, check on this BEFORE ordering. California is the hardest state on food vendors even hot dog carts in some areas are required to have 30 fresh and 40 gray.
  • What percent larger does your Gray holding tank (used water from dishes or hand washing) need to be than your Fresh holding tank?
This varies by your local health department, we do not know this information, check on this BEFORE ordering.

e.g. a 40 Gallon Fresh tank that must have a 15% larger Gray water tank would be a 46 Gallon tank.

How to find out the size you need. Multiply (fresh tank size) x 1.15 (1 and 15%) = Tank needed
30 x 1.15 = 34.50
33 x 1.15 = 37.95

30 x 1.50 (50%) = 45
33 x 1.50 = 49.5

  • Where are the fittings located? Can you move them for me?
All tanks come with four fittings built into the tank. All fittings are located on one end of the tank, if you stand the tank with the tallest length facing up all fitting will be on this end.

We can not move fittings and we do not offer custom water tanks unless you are looking for bulk (500 tanks or more) amounts.

The color of the fittings may vary.

1 1/2" Balloon Fitting

The fitting will be closed off and can be used or left as is.
To use the fitting simply trim out the inside piece.

1/2" Female NPT Standard Fitting

The small hex head is a temporary fitting that is put into the tank during testing to check if the tank is water tight, we don't recommend keeping these in but if you do be sure to use a food safe pipe dope to keep them from leaking.

Boss Pipe Fitting 1 1/4" Dia x 2" Tall Spout

You can use a clamp style fitting or use this for the vent.
The 18 gallon tank is the only model to carry the boss fitting (9/7/2016)
The small red/blue cap that comes on the spouts is just a dust cap not a fitting.

At this time we do not sell fittings
your local hardware store will have the fittings you are looking for.

PVC Male Adapter, MNPT x Socket, 1/2" Pipe Size (Fittings)

  • Can I cut a hole in the tank and just glue another fitting in?
No, the fittings are not glued into the tanks. After the tank is formed the fitting is placed in a tool that spins the fitting and causes both the tank and the fitting to heat, melting the plastic. The fitting is permanently mounted into the tank, no glues or other materials are used.

view of the fitting on the inside of the tank

view of the fitting on the outside of the tank

Many people think that the fittings are glued in due to the residue left by putting the fittings in place, this is part of the material the tanks are made from and will flake off over time, this is not a glue. Notice the cracks in the material this is just a surface cracking and in no way effects the tank.

  • These tanks look thin are you sure they are safe?
All tanks will vary on thickness but on average they are .219 or 7/32" thick. The tanks will need to be braced and sit on a flat surface. Tanks should not have anything set on top of them.

All water tanks we carry must be vented
allowing air to move in and out when filling and emptying the tank.
You should NOT fill the tank from a direct city line (garden hose), this is not a safe option and could explode the tank causing serious damage.

  • Can I stack the water tanks on top of each other?
No, you can not place additional weight on the tanks. You will need to build a weight bearing shelf between the water tanks.

  • Do I need to brace the water tank?
Yes, you will want to brace the water tank and have the tank sit on a a level surface.

  • Can I set the tank up on end?
Yes, the tank can sit on any end, except the fittings, you will need to brace the tank and run a food grade hose down inside to reach the bottom of the tank.

  • Can I mount the tank under the trailer on the outside?
Yes, you will need to enclose the entire tank and brace it letting it sit on a level surface such as plywood or sheet metal. Be sure you check clearance to avoid having the tank removed on a speed bump or curb. Do not hang the tank under the trailer with straps, enclose tank on level surface.

Some states require your gray water tank to be placed outside of your trailer for safety reasons. This varies by your local health department, we do not know this information, check on this BEFORE ordering.

  • Can I put the water tank under the trailer or on the roof?
We do not recommend placing a water tank on the roof unless you have reinforced the roof.
Water weighs around 8.3 pounds per gallon so a 40 gallon water tank would weight around 332 pounds.

  • Can I put the water tank outside in the sun?
Each water tank is made from Medium Density Polyethlene (MDPE) Resin with a UV-8 stabilization, this is listed as long term stabilization.

UV Codes:
UV0 (no UV protection)
UV8 (‘long’ term protection)
UV16 (‘longer’ term protection)
UV24 (exceptional protection)

We would recommend for getting the longest use out of your tank to enclose them.

  • Can I place hot water in the tank?
We do not recommend placing hot water in the water tanks.

  • When I get the tank what should I do first?
With all water tanks, no matter where purchased, you will need to sanitize the inside prior to use. There may be shavings and water in the tank from the manufacture process of making and testing the tank. Go to Bottom of Page for more Info.

NSF INFORMATION

  • All of the tanks we carry are made from the same food safe material that is food grade certified but not each tank model is NSF Certified meaning the tank model will not be on the NSF website.
  • Each water tank carries the NSF logo molded into the tank.
  • Forward the pages listed below to your local health department BEFORE purchasing to be sure these tanks will pass your local inspection, this is your responsibility to complete this prior to purchasing.

You will need to leave one fitting free to allow air to go out of the tank when being filled with water and air to go into the tank when being emptied of water. The easiest method is to use an outside fill dish.

Suggestions on tank sanitation

1. Prepare a chlorine solution using one gallon of water and a ¼ cup of household bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite solution)
*DO NOT USE FRESH SCENT OR ANY SCENT ENHANCED BLEACH*.

Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners.

Open windows and doors to get fresh air when you use bleach.

With tank empty, pour chlorine solution into tank. Use one gallon of solution for each 15 gallons of tank capacity.

2. Complete filling of tank with fresh water.

3. Allow to stand for three (3) hours

4. Drain and flush with potable fresh water.

Any residual chlorine odor will dissipate naturally.
